Today we will talk again on a new topic.
We are going to talk about the “Magnetic field of the earth”. You all already know about the magnetic field of the earth. But today we will talk about some such incidents that happened due to the magnetic field of the earth, which have never been discussed. Four such incidents have come to light.

1. In the 1970s, an annual competition of “carrier pigeons” was organized in Italy. Out of 1200 pigeons that participated in the 18 rounds of the competition, only a few hundred pigeons returned on time. They were confused in finding their way because that year was a year of solar magnetic storms, which had a direct impact on the Earth’s magnetic field.

2. A submarine requires a very powerful “extremely low frequency /(ELF)” transmitter to maintain radio contact after it is submerged. When the US Navy switched on this new transmitter several years ago, seagulls and other migratory birds flocked to the area around it for hundreds of square kilometres. The reason for the misdirection was that the electromagnetic waves caused local reversals in the Earth’s magnetic field.

3. The abdomen of a honeybee contains about “one million particles of a magnetic substance”, magnetite, which create a very fine magnetic field in a horizontal line. The number of particles 0.1 microns long in the head of a carrier pigeon is about 100 million.

4. Birds committing ‘suicide‘ at “Jatinga” in the Indian state of Assam are likely to be victims of a magnetic anomaly. The Earth’s magnetic field is locally distorted here. This means the birds have no sense of direction. Excessive shaking and psychological trauma can be fatal for some birds.
4. असम के “जटिंगा” में ‘आत्महत्या‘ करने वाले पक्षी संभवतः चुंबकीय विसंगति के शिकार हैं। यहाँ पृथ्वी का चुंबकीय क्षेत्र स्थानीय रूप से विकृत है। इसका मतलब है कि पक्षियों को दिशा का कोई बोध नहीं है। अत्यधिक कंपन और मनोवैज्ञानिक आघात कुछ पक्षियों के लिए घातक हो सकते हैं।
